In 2002, Nobi Nakanishi was commissioned by the Museum of Modern Art to create a tribute video for President Emeritus Agnes Gund - a gift to her from the Trustees, Curators, and countless staff members. This commission came after Nobi had created a similar type of video that somehow reached 'underground cult status' amongst the staff of the Museum.
Leveraging everyone's admiration for Aggie, Nobi was able to combine sincere interview footage with authentic comedic moments, and showcased an early form of karaoke / lip dub that capped it all off. It was presented at Party in The Garden, MoMA's annual fundraiser, alongside presentations and performances by Wynton Marsalis and William Wegman. Subsequently, the project was acquired by the Department of Film and Video, making Nobi a MoMA artist at the humble age of 26.
